St. Croix - Restaurants / Beach Bars
Full Moon Beach Bar
The Full Moon Beach Bar is located directly across the street from Cane Bay Beach, right next to Cane Bay Dive Shop on the north shore.
They have a Sunday Brunch you will not want to miss. Even their simple dishes are superb. An excellent choice is their breakfast sandwich.
Actually, it's 2 sandwiches, each with eggs over easy, cheese, & Canadian bacon, on a toasted English muffin. By the way, this is one place that knows how to do eggs "over-easy" just perfectly. Included on the side were home style hash-brown potatoes fried up with onions and red, green, & yellow peppers.
They've got great prices, live entertainment, specials nearly every day, party nights, all-you-can-eat nights, dinner & movie nights, plus Full Moon parties. It's very popular with the locals, and sits directly across from Cane Bay, with views overlooking the ocean. Keep in mind too, that your food is only prepared after the order is placed. It may take a bit longer than usual, but you'll appreciate the difference.
Bogey's Bar & Restaurant
Bogey's can be found on the north side of the island at Cane Bay. It sits directly over the water at the Cane Bay Reef Club. Dine on the elevated terrace looking at the lights of St. Thomas, on the lower level right on the beach, or at the bar. There isn't a bad view anywhere.
The prices are excellent and the specials are even better. Wednesday night is lobster night where you can wade into a huge lobster feast for only about $17. Hard to beat anywhere. Bogey's also serves up one of the best hamburgers ever. It's nearly 2 inches thick, and that doesn't include the trimmings.
At the bar you can enjoy a cool one at days end while watching the sporting event de' jour on large screens. There's also a card room in the back for those wanting a relaxing game.
Bogey's is immensely popular with the locals who generally account for around 90% of the business. Come here to sit back and relax while enjoying a first-rate dinner. And don't forget, everything is prepared when you order, so be patient - it's worth the wait.
Rum Runners Steaks & Seafood
Rum Runners is in downtown Christiansted on the north side, right on the harbor waterfront. You'll find it on the boardwalk next to the Caravelle Hotel.
They offer a wide variety of cuisine, both Caribbean and Continental. Their seafood is superb, and a great selection to try would be the conch fritters as a starter, followed by some tempura fried shrimp. Both come with a fabulous dipping sauce from a house secret recipe.
The deck bar next door is a popular watering hole frequented by both locals and visitors. Directly outside, tarpon gather each evening waiting to be fed. You can purchase food for them at the bar, or just enjoy watching others feed them.
These fish are regulars, as easily seen by their size, and even were the water not very shallow at this point, the tarpon are easy to see as they broach the surface chasing handouts (and each other), plus the water is crystal clear.
With it's close proximity to downtown, shopping, historical sites including Fort Christiansvaern, the boardwalk, and harbor, Rum Runners is a great choice for any meal. Prices are moderate and the atmosphere relaxed.
Off the Wall Beach Bar
Off the Wall is literally "off the wall". It sits directly on the beach at Cane Bay, with the famous St. Croix "Wall" only about 200 yards offshore. This is a reef that starts at around 40' in depth and drops down to about 3200' by the time it reaches bottom.
Like the sign says, "no shirt, no shoes, no problem" - Off the Wall is quite informal. Beachgoers and anyone else can feel free to drop in after diving, or a swim, and get great some great eats. Just grab an empty picnic table and let the sand run through your toes while you wait.
Two favorites recommended by locals are their calzones, and pizza. And prices are super, especially for anyone on a budget. Actually the pizza, is some of the best you can find anywhere, at any price, and comes out mouth-watering, freshly prepared and hot. Add a cool drink, and you've got a terrific meal.
